Classroom FAQ
Communication: My email address is [email protected]. The school number is (980) 343-6725. Email is the best way to reach me. I respond to all emails within 24 hours during the school week. If there is anything urgent, please contact the office. You may also write a note in your child's agenda.
Arriving to School on time: It is important that your child arrives to school on time each day. Your child will need to be in the classroom, ready to learn by 8:00 am.
Binders/Agendas: Agendas will come home nightly. It is the student's responsibility to write down their assignments. The agenda must be signed by a parent each night to signify that you are aware of your child's homework. The signing of the agenda is considered part of your child's nightly homework.
ClassDojo: Every student has a ClassDojo account and can earn positive points for hard work, completing assignments, helping others, etc. Students may log in at home to see how many points they earned that day or to change their avatar. In case Internet access is not available at home, students may also write their ClassDojo points in their agenda daily.
Homework:
- Reading: Each night your child is to read for 20 minutes. Your child should alternate between reading aloud to you and you reading to him/her. Oral reading fluency is an important skill for your child to be practicing daily.
- Spelling: TBA
- Math: Assigned Mondays and Wednesdays (enVision Worksheets) and due the next day.
Volunteer: At this time we are not able to have volunteers in the building due to ongoing distancing and safety concerns. We will update parents when it is safe to resume volunteer support in the school.
Snack: Your child should bring a snack each day. Snack time will be a working time in the afternoon. It must be a healthy snack (veggies, fruit, crackers, pretzels, raisins, etc.) that is easy to take out. No sweets, snacks that need spoons, or messy foods are allowed. A water bottle with a top is permitted in the classroom.
Parent Link Notebook: Every Friday your child will be bringing home his/her parent link notebook that contains a letter written to you about our school week. Please read your child’s letter, and write a letter to your child responding to his/her week on the next blank page. Return the notebook to school each Monday morning with your child. This is a great way to see what activities your child is learning at school each week.
Birthdays: This year we will be asking that parents handle birthday 'celebrations' differently. We are asking that instead of a food treat that you send in a non-food item. All of second grade is following this idea. Here are some ideas we came up with: fun pencils, neat erasers, key chains, stickers sheets, etc. Students will be able to pass out their "treat" at the end of the day. Thank you for your support with this!
Beginning of the Year Forms: At Open House, your child will receive a blue Sharon folder containing beginning of the year forms. Please fill out all forms with the most up to date information and return to school. Thank you!
Dismissal Changes:
** If there are any dismissal changes you must write me a note in order for me to let your child go home a different way. Please do not email me a transportation change in the middle of the school day as I will be teaching and may not see your request. If plans change after your child has already arrived at school, please contact the office with the change prior to 1:45 pm.
Lunch: At this time we are not able to accommodate visitors at lunch time due to ongoing distancing and safety requirements. Thank you for your understanding and for helping keep our school safe!
