Behavior Expectations
At Sharon, we use the Positive Discipline approach. Children learn how to create, develop, and maintain positive and respectful relationships with others. Students are taught to take responsibility for addressing and solving problems, and we will have class meetings regularly to develop these problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. Students will be given an opportunity to share their problems and their suggestions, and the class will work together to come up with creative and positive solutions.
We will also be using ClassDojo to reinforce positive behavior and student responsibility. Each student starts out with zero points every week. Throughout the day, students may earn points, depending on his/her positive behavior choices (helping others, following directions, on task, etc.). This system allows students to think about and adjust their behavior. On Fridays, students will be able to earn "Free Choice Friday" as a reward if they have positive Dojo points collected throughout the week.
Our classroom rules follow the positive discipline approach and the Sharon School rules (see SOAR matrix below). In the event I need to meet with a student about the classroom and/or school rules, students will complete a Think and Write sheet. Students will have it signed by a parent/guardian and return it to school. This gives the students an opportunity to reflect on the choices they have made and what choices can be made in the future.
